Creatures of earth, sea, and air, and plants of all kinds have always been a part of my art. They reach out to me and come into my paintings as part of the life-force I tap into when I work. But the Ocean Series transcends pre-occupation with natural phenomena and phantoms; it changes me when I work. As I transform, caressed and cradled by sea imagery, letting go of everyday life, I take my symbols and materials with me to a new level of texture and movement. My process is not a linear, intellectual experience. Rather, it pulsates with the spiritual force that I feel connecting all life. When I am near the ocean, I am confronted with a huge magnetic force. There, like the Hindu Wheel of Life, time and space are circular. I am most alive when I am working: Exploring the edge, the brim. Loosing the separate sense of self without falling into the void. Contained in great circles of ocean power yet free to move through the spiral, where inside something means outside of something else and vise versa. Everything coming full circle - the circle of life. Specifically, my sense of humanness shifts in this series.

Seeing through the worlds eyes rather than my own, everything is in perpetual flux outside of the ego centrism of humanity. The minutiae melt away and I am cradled by eternity - the goddess. The universe becomes like a shell that we can hold in our hands, or be deep inside of. It is about leaving the mundane to experience the beginning of life, the beauty of life, the cosmic joke of life. While this series is more about transformation and more metaphysical than my previous work, the most precious symbols I have developed over the years appear within the circled and spiraled images. Continuing to use gouache, a water medium, I'm pushing the paradox of the work with other media such as charcoal, colored pencils, and graphite. Searching for an ever more voluptuous glow to enhance the depth of meaning.
